Here you’ll find scripts, and some prose, from a variety of projects over the years. They’re here for you to read and enjoy, and by all means show them to other people too. That’s what they’re for. But remember that everything here is covered by a Creative Commons licence. In essence, it means enjoy at your leisure — but I get to make a cut of any monies made if you do anything commercial with my work. Which is only fair.

Short film script - Amigo

This pretty much wrote itself, and I’m glad of that. It’s a lot of fun, and a few people have said they’d love to make it, but it’s an expensive proposition. Any wealthy benefactors with strong puppetry or CGI skills are encouraged to get in touch.

Play script - Breaking In

I’m really fond of this script, a two hander initially written for Nottingham Playhouse. They didn’t pay me to write it, so I guess it’s not technically a commission. On the other hand, it attracted a larger audience than their main stage production at the time, so I rock. The initial production featured Johnny Lynch and Dee Whitehead, and was directed by Cris Green. More recently, director Iain MacDonald revived it for a week of shows at the Hen & Chickens in Islington, with David McCaffrey and Louise Hooper.

Radio play script - A Ghost in the Garage

This is a radio play script in the sense that it was written for radio, rather than being broadcast on it. That said, BBC Radio Drama Producer Cherry Cookson was taken with the script, saying “very interesting and original…your ideas and dialogue style are impressive”. Me, I loved the idea of a radio play set around a family showing their holiday slides to a family friend who doesn’t speak but who affects the relationships between everyone else in the room.

30 minute tv adaptation script - The Monkey’s Paw

A director/producer I’d done a short film with had a number of other ideas, one of which was to do a series of tv adaptations of classic - ie copyright-free - ghost stories. Nothing came of the project, though it was fun to participate in both as a writer and editor of the other scripts. But, I remain happy with my own contribution, a version of the W.W. Jacobs story ‘The Monkey’s Paw’. If you want to read the original, before or after this, check out http://gaslight.mtroyal.ab.ca/mnkyspaw.htm.

Comic script - Hellblazer: Primary Allegiances

Hellblazer script notes

I wrote this story once upon a long time ago, and the politics of it sadly don’t seem to have dated since then. For those of you who don’t know, Hellblazer is a horror comic published by DC’s Vertigo imprint, about a British occultist called John Constantine. He’s fascinating, but not at all someone you’d be advised to get to know.
